Current Event #5

This article is called, "Games aren't real, viewers are: More college football spring games airing on television". It's about how Spring games are being aired on television as sports networks discover the value of airing the glorified scrimmages, hitting their fans— people who might otherwise be joining the tens of thousands at the stadium. It's free advertising in the middle of the off season for programs competing for the country's top recruits. The Big Ten Network is going to broadcast live all but one of its schools' spring football games this year on TV or the Internet. This is a positive article because it's not hurting anybody and it's talking about free advertising which is a good thing. I think this article will have long term affects because it's something they haven't done before but will help the sports industry by getting the top recruits. It doesn't affect my life because I don't watch or like basketball. This article proves the importance advertisements can make. It's free advertising and shows you really need to advertise.

Current Event #4

The article I read was "Vikings make Rice an offer to sign long-term contract". The article was about signing a contract with Sydney Rice. This is a positive article. The Vikings had plans to meet with Rice's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, at the NFL Scouting Combine. This is a long term affect. Hopefully, the Vikings can get Rice under contract because he is positive asset to the Vikings team. It doesn't really affect my life, although I hope he gets signed with the Vikings because he is my favorite player and I think he will be a positive attribute to the team.

Current Event #2

The article was called "Vikings set to meet with agents at combine". It  is about how Vikings vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman said team officials will spend time at the NFL Scouting Combine meeting with agents for their potential free agents. This is neither a positive or negative event but could go either way depending on what players the Vikings can sign. It is a long term events because the players signed will play on the Vikings for the season. It  doesn't really affect my life although I would like to see some good players signed for the Vikings upcoming season. Hopefully the Vikings will be able to keep Sydney Rice. This article is drawing attention from football fans, also fans can post comments about the article with helps market the Vikings by interacting with other fans and voicing their opinions.

Super Bowl Post

The article is called "Black Eyed Peas perform at Super Bowl XLV Halftime show: Missing The Feeling". This article was about how the black eyed peas had many problems during their performance at the Super Bowl. This is a negative issue. It makes the Super Bowl seem less professional. The issues they had involved sound, like when Fergie's microphone didn't work. I think that the performance was terrible and I always look forward to the halftime show except for this year. I think that the issues could have been fixed and they should have been more prepared and planned the halftime show more carefully.

Superbowl Seating

  1. What was the issue at the Superbowl last night?
400 fans couldn't watch the Superbowl because they didn't have seats for them, and others were moved into different seats (ones they didn't pay for).

  1.  How many people were affected?
400 fans had no seats, and 850 other fans had to move seats.

  1. How, at the time, did the NFL handle the situation?
The 400 fans who didn't have seats were able to sit in the Cowboys Stadium on Sunday to watch the game in standing-room areas or on monitors in a club level.

  1. What is the NFL doing now to re-pay the people who were affected?
They promised the 400 people without seats  tickets to the Superbowl next year, and the 850 who had to moves seats were promised to refund 3x the face value of the tickets.

  1. How might this event affect the NFL’s public image? In other words, how might people or organizations view the NFL after this incident?
Some people will probably view the NFL as irresponsible. They had such a big event and they should have planned ahead and gave themselves more time to set up the seats. It is possible that some of the people won't buy tickets to the Superbowl again because of this incident.

Current Event #1

The title of the current event is "Is Appropriation the Same as Stealing and Why Is It Happening More Now?". This article was about how in today's society people are becoming more Internet based. In the dance world, this can pose a problem. Many choreographers are able to go on websites like YouTube and look at choreography and costumes other people have created and just use it without permission of the owner. This affects all dancers and choreographers such as Kamali who had the costumes from one of her performances, "Devotion" take from her. This is a negative event and is not doing anything good for the dance world. I think that this event will have long term effects. I personally don;t think it will be solved anytime soon because many people don't even consider dance a sport and probably wouldn't even think to do anything about this issue. This issue does affect me because I am a dancer and have videos of my dance team on YouTube. My team has had songs that were taken and used without permission. From this article I learned that this is an actual issue. I also learned that nothing is being done about it. The last thing that I learned is that dance choreography used to be based on art, but now has more to do with what the person sees on the computer.
